The Well Society, the majority shareholder of Motherwell Football Club, the UK’s first top-flight, fan-owned football club, notes the resignation of Douglas Dickie as Vice-Chair and director of the football club.
Commenting, The Well Society Board said: “It’s an exciting time for Motherwell Football Club and The Well Society, following a difficult period during which our fans were clear on our continued commitment to fan-ownership in the top flight of Scottish football.
“In July, we published ‘Our Club, Our Future’ – The Well Society’s plan for growth, and in August, three new Directors were elected to The Well Society Board.
“Under fresh leadership, we’re working together constructively with the Chief Executive and his team around a shared vision for success. Together, we’re working through a transparent process to appoint a new Club Chair and Directors, in addition to three additional co-opted members for The Well Society Board. A series of high-quality candidates have been identified who, in addition to a strong commitment to fan-ownership and engagement, bring extensive experience in a broad range of areas.
“In June, Mr. Dickie made the decision to resign from The Well Society Board. He opted to retain his position on the Club Executive Board. As a result, he ceased to be one of two Well Society representatives on the Club Executive Board.
“Despite the above, Mr. Dickie was invited to engage in an open process involving the Club Chief Executive and Well Society Directors. Mr. Dickie confirmed his intention to do so. We now note that Mr. Dickie’s position has changed and thank him for his service and significant contribution to Motherwell Football Club.
“Working together – The Well Society, Chief Executive, Manager and fans – we’re enthused by the optimism and energy around the Football Club, on and off the field, and we look forward to further strengthening the team that will drive us to future success. Further key appointments are expected in mid-October.”
