Several Motherwell greats paid a surprise visit to wish Well Society member Jimmy Johnstone a happy 90th birthday – and meet some of our youngest Junior Steel members.
Motherwell FC Former Players’ Club stalwarts Bobby Watson, John Martis, Davie Whiteford, Willie Pettigrew and Davie Main turned up to greet long-standing Motherwell fan Jimmy.
There were four generations of Well Society members present including the newest additions to Jimmy’s family, great-grandchildren Dylan and Elsy Law. The twins were signed up to the Well Society within six months of being born.
Also present were Jimmy’s son, well-known Motherwell fan Matt Johnstone, and his granddaughter and Well Society board member, Amber Johnstone, plus his great-granddaughter Ayla Law.

Amber said: “My papa has been a Motherwell fan all his life and was one of the first to sign up to the Well Society.
“He can often recall games from the 1950s but struggles to remember what he had for dinner.
“After losing my gran in July and my papa’s reduced mobility leaving him mostly house bound, we were trying to think of a way to make his 90th that bit special.
“We are very grateful to the Former Players who really went above and beyond to visit and spend some time with him and can’t thank them enough.
“I think it shows how important Motherwell FC is to the community in our area. My papa’s smile says it all.”
