Well Society members recently issued an emphatic message on the impact of VAR.
We are now acting to take your concerns to those running Scottish football.
We are launching a petition open to all Scottish football fans in a bid to ensure meaningful consultation on the use of video technology with the people who put their money into the game week on week.
The results of our survey were overwhelming:
- 99.3% of members who responded wanted VAR either reformed or scrapped altogether
- 63% do not support VAR in Scottish football
- 60% said VAR had made the matchday experience “significantly worse”
Supporters spoke of endless delays, poor communication, baffling decisions, and a growing distance between the fans and the game.
A system meant to add clarity has delivered the opposite. At an annual cost of six figures per club, money that could be invested in players, communities, or grassroots football.
Fans across Scotland – from every club – have shared the same frustrations. This is about more than one team. This is about protecting the integrity, rhythm, and joy of Scottish football.
We’re calling for:
- A full, transparent review of how VAR is working in Scotland, with meaningful fan input
- An open debate about whether the benefits of VAR justify its financial and emotional cost
- A willingness to act, whether that means reforming VAR or removing it altogether
