Jens Berthel Askou is determined to repay the Motherwell fans’ faith after being “extremely impressed” with the “incredible” support the team have received so far this season.

Askou’s side will run out at Tynecastle on Saturday to a full away end after Motherwell fans snapped up the last of around 650 tickets earlier this week.

“Everyone’s talking about the atmosphere there, I look forward to experiencing it, and I look forward to playing in front of a full away stand,” the Dane said. “We could probably fill it twice with the amount of support we’re getting right now, which is amazing. So if they have some unsold tickets, then pass them this way, and I’m sure we’re going to get some more people up there. We’re excited, looking forward to the game, a big game.”

The sell-out was no surprise after the buy-in from Well fans in the early days of Askou’s reign, which has seen Motherwell go unbeaten in seven games and play some attractive possession-based football.

There were around 6,000 fans in the three home stands for the league opener against Rangers and about 1200 travelled to Paisley the following weekend. Around 1500 Well fans roared the team into the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals in Perth last weekend.

Season tickets are still available in monthly instalments and there have been 300 new fans buying them so far.

Askou said: “I heard a lot of good things about the club when I came – it’s a well-supported club and very loyal fans. And I have to say they’ve shown me that really, really fast. I’ve been extremely impressed, especially with the away support we’ve had. It has been incredible – 1500 the other day was a big, big number compared to the size of the club we are.

“Getting 300 new season ticket holders is a big thing, and it tells a lot about the community and the club, and if we do things right within the club, then the support is outstanding. It’s growing, which is positive for everyone, and we can’t wait to pay back.”
