Major Infrastructure Projects in Pipeline

Motherwell chairman Kyrk Macmillan signalled progress was being made on major infrastructure projects in his latest update to supporters.

The Executive Board is taking a strategic approach to utilising recent transfer income to ensure that it is reinvested in areas which provide long-term benefits in keeping with the ethos of the club.

“There’s a lot of things that we’re working on,” Kyrk said. “The board now has been in place for just coming up on 12 months. It’s obviously been a big process for us getting into the football club. We’ve had a couple of managerial changes within that as well, which obviously takes up a significant amount of time.

“There’s a couple of big infrastructural projects that we want to complete. Obviously there’s a lot of contractual things that I can’t go into too specifically just now in regards to that, but we’re working on things ultimately to improve the club.

“We want to make sure that there’s a legacy here that is safeguarding the future of the football club, that makes sure we’ve got a pipeline of young talent coming through, because obviously that’s a key pillar of who we are as a football club.

“And we want to make sure that people’s experience, all the touch points that they have in the stadium with a football club, both physically and digitally, are as good as they can be.

“These things take time for sure, so there’s a lot going on. As soon as we’re able to announce a bit more formal details on things we definitely will, but that’s part of the process that we’re working on just now together with the full Executive Board in conjunction with Well Society.”

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final against St Mirren, when more than 9,000 Motherwell fans travelled to Hampden, the club chairman also covered topics such as:

  • The “massive” financial impact of getting to Hampden two years running
  • Kyrk’s relationship with Jens Berthel Askou and the manager’s input into the strategic direction of the club
  • Growing attendances at Fir Park and the role the style of football plays in that rise
  • Reflecting on a year as chairman and the dynamics of the new-look board

“It’s been a really fun year,” he added. “There’s a lot more that we want to do, and the next phase for us now is starting to implement some of the ideas that we’ve got, and a lot of the projects that we’ve been working on behind the scenes, hopefully start to see them come to fruition.”
